I never planned for all these changes in advance. I always wanted to be an engineer, and met that goal. As it turned out I was a better manager than engineer.
Somehow, teaching others always became part of what I did. This was not planned, but it turned out it was natural to me.
Since the 1970s thru the 2010's within the tech world I found myself either laid off or at a company that failed. Job hunts were short or at some points over a year. Changes and survival were adventures
Marreid in 1976 Lasted 25 years. #3kids (now adults in their 40s and also 3 grandkids now) 3 dogs along the way ( I do not have one now, but all the kids have dogs. Coached sports for all the kids. for about a decade.
Unplanned I took on roles of leadership and political activism in the LGBBT+ community for most of the 2010s
I have written and published 3 books and hundreds of articles on HuffPost , Medium and Substack
Over 6 years in a substance abuse clinic - I have parts that are a type A engineering manager and a calm, curious counselor. Who knew?
There is also those restless parts, that find ways to make a difference. This brings me joy.
I can testify that your insights in
'No. Maybe. Yes.' were essential to my own embracing change and uncertainty.
Thank you, Grace
"I attended the showcase and meant to contact you right away...
I just wanted to comment on how impressed I was with your presentation. Not only the content but the delivery. Since I’ve been in the business for so many years it takes a lot for a speaker to grab my attention the way you did."
